Just enter one or more tags in the box, separated by spaces (e.g. 'necklace silver'). Tagtastic searches Etsy to find items that have the tags you want, and finds other tags that are often found on the same item as your query. This may take a while, so please be patient! The result is a bunch of graphs and a table showing useful information about the items that were found.
The top bar chart shows the distribution of price for the items that were found using your query. This can be useful if you want to see how the price of your items compares with the price of similar items. The second bar chart shows the distributions of views per day for the items that were found using your query. This can be useful if you want to see which whether items with a given tag tend to get a lot of views.
The scatter plots show information about tags that are related to your query (i.e. they are are found on the same items). The three plots show the same information, but for different sets of tags. The top plot shows tags found on items with the highest average views per day; the middle one shows tags found on the most expensive items; and the bottom plot shows the most popular tags. Each blue blob represents a single tag and has a label showing the tag. The size of the blue blob represents the number of items with that tag. The left-right position of the blob represents the average price of items with that tag (more expensive towards the right). The up-down position of the blob represents the average number of views per day of items with that tag (more views per day towards the top). If you want to get high numbers of views for your items, you should look at the tags that are near the top of the plots.
The table shows the same information as the scatter plots, but for all tags. Depending on how you're using the tool, it might be easier to get the information from the table than the plots. You can click on the column headers to sort the rows. You can click on any tag in the leftmost column to go to an Etsy search for your query plus that tag.
Good question! Here are a couple of examples of how you can use the Tag Finder to get useful information. If you have a cool use for the Tag Finder, contact me and I'll add it to this page.
If you have an item and you're trying to think of tags for it, enter the main theme of your item (e.g. 'dog') in the search field. When you get the results, scroll down to the table and click on the "number of items" header to sort by that column. The tags near the top of the table will be those that are most often found with your tag (e.g. 'pet', 'animal', 'puppy'). You can see which items get the highest views by looking at the 'average views/day' column. Using tags you find here with the highest views will have an immediate effect on the number of daily views your items get.
You can also use the tag tool to get ideas for new products. Enter tags that describe the kind of item you make (e.g. if you knit scarves, enter 'knitted scarf'). In the results, look for tags that are associated with high numbers of views (e.g. 'handspun', 'buttons', 'fringe' - maybe your next item should be a scarf made from handspun wool with buttons and a fringe!). The "number of items" column gives you an idea of how reliable the numbers are - the higher the number in that column, the more accurate the estimate of the average number of views is.
You can also use the tag tool to get suggestions about pricing. Enter tags that you use a lot, then click on the "average price" column header to sort by average price, and see what tags are associated with higher/lower prices.
Remember, the results from the tag tool are based on a random sampling of items that are listed right now. You could get very different results from the same search tomorrow, and there are many ways in which the averages could be unreliable. I hope you find the tag tool useful - but please don't make any major business decisions based on the results you get!
Enter your Etsy shop name in the box (you don't have to include the .etsy.com bit, so if your Etsy shop address is mylittleshop.etsy.com, just enter mylittleshop). Tagtastic looks through all of the items in your shop and generates a bunch of graphs and a table showing useful information about your items and tags. The graphs and the table show the same information as in the Tag Finder, but particular to your shop.
The top bar chart shows the distribution of price for the items in your shop. This can be useful if you want to see the spread of prices in your shop. The second bar chart shows the distributions of views per day for the items in your shop. This can be useful if you want to see how many views per day your items nornally get, and for spotting items that are getting more or fewer views than normal.

Depending on how you're using the tool, it might be easier to get the information from the table than the plots. You can click on the column headers to sort the rows. You can click on any tag in the leftmost column to go to an Etsy search for your username plus that tag - if you always tag your items with your shop name, this search should show your items with that tag.
The shop stats tool ignores tags which occur on fewer than 5 items. This is because with a low number of items, the statistics are easily biased, so they are less reliable. Also, filtering out these tags makes it easier to see the tags that are often used in a shop. If you have fewer than 5 items in your shop, or you don't reuse tags often, you might get this error. Try again when you have more items, and contact me if there's still a problem.
You can use Shop Stats as an analytics tool to help you see what tags are getting the most traffic and how pricing influences that traffic. You can then use this information to positively influence the success of your Etsy items.
For example, say you are selling dresses on your Etsy shop. You run Shop Stats, and it returns a list of the tags you are using. You see "mini dress" is getting the most views per day, with 311 views at an average price of $31.00. Looking at the charts, you see this is a popular search term and therefore would be beneficial to have more dresses that fit into the "mini dress" tag in your shop. Also, you can test how pricing influences views by increasing or decreasing the prices (in your Etsy account) of your mini dresses. Check back in a day or two, and you will see if that price change affected the views in a positive or negative way.
